rIt's quite simple actually.
Games use the mind more than the body, and sports are the opposite. At least that is how I look at it...

Sport is defined as institutionalized competitive activities involving rigorous physical exertion, complex skills while being motivated by personal enjoyment or some extrinsic motivation.
In other words a sport has training, hard work and it takes some form of talent.
I realize that a "game" like poker does take some talent to bluff and know when to make the right move and you are motivated to play because of the money or because you like the game, but it does not fall into the same category as sport

A game is a structured or semi-structured activity, usually undertaken for enjoyment. The term "game" is also used to describe simulation of various activities e.g,, for the purposes of training, analysis or prediction, etc., see "Game (simulation)".
Key components of games are goals, rules, challenge, and interactivity. Games generally involve mental or physical stimulation, and sometimes both. Many games help develop practical skills, serve as a form of exercise, or otherwise perform an educational, simulational or psychological role.
Known to have been played as far back as prehistoric times, games are generally distinct from work, which is usually carried out for remuneration, and from art, which is more concerned with the expression of ideas. However, the distinction is not clear-cut, and many games may also be considered work, art, or all three.
An extremely detailed section on every main sport you can think of. The playing field, rules, equipment, everything is shown. They even have pictures of each type of swimming stroke. I'm impressed! The authors thought of everything.
