I seem to remember hearing some advice about pouring club soda on a r ed wine stain on c arpeting. Also, the makers of the Oxyclean products have done t.v. demonstrations showing putting a scoop or two of powdered Oxyclean in warm water, and just pouring it on the stain. If it's a fitted carpet with an underlay, the solution can safely go through into it, and, they say, will neutralize the stain substance there too.. But with the increasing popularity of red wine these days, a lot of manufacturers of cleaning products have come out with one that specifically targets this problem.

Hi
I would recommend using a wet vac and slowly pour hot water (almost to the boiling point) on the spot and vacuum it up at the same time (this will open up the dye ports on the carpet fibre releasing the stain. and remove the residue from the carpet). If the stain is still visible than use a little carpet spotter on it or Dawn dishwashing liquid (2 or 3 drops into one cup of water) and repeat step 1. The stain may come back in a few days so you may have to do this a few times. Please DO NOT put anything on the carpet that was not made for carpet. At this point if the stain is still there please call a carpet cleaner..

Salt.
But it has to be while the wine is wet.
Pour lots of alt on and leave it to absorb.
Vacuum, then scrub. Your carpet will be as good as new.
If the wine has dried - you'll need to buy carpet cleaner - unless anyone else has some tricks up their sleeve!
Good luck!

We had same problem. I think white wine might only work if it's done immediately. We bought a vanish spray (about £3) and it worked really well.
