Get a strimmer and cut back the brambles. Prune back other shrubs and put the waste through a shredder if you have or can borrow one. This will make a mulch that you can put round the base of the plants that you want to keep and will give the place a quick tidy up. You could put some nice pots with colourful plants in areas to detract your visitors eyes away from the worst areas.

There is no quick way. I restore gardens for a living. Prevention is the only way to deal with brambles. Else you get in there with heavy gloves and secateurs and cut the brambles out from ground level and pull them out of the surrounding growth. From what you are saying an hour a day for the next four to eight weeks is on the cards.

I hate brambles. Unfortunately they are hard to get rid of. If you cut them back to the ground, they come back more vigorous. If yu til or pull up and leave part of a root behind, they just reproduce from what was left behind. The roots also seem to go to kingdom come. It took me two years to get rid of the mess and they still try and come back but now I can get them while they are young and dont have such a dandy root system. If you want a quick fix for right now, cut the bramble down to about 5 inches above the ground and mark them for digging out in the spring. However, now is really the time to get them out of the ground. In Fall and winter the plant goes dormant and is much more amenable to removable. In Spring, even before the weather is nice, these brambles are vigorous and healthy and putting out more roots. So...dig out as many as you can and BURN. Do not leave laying in the yard because what you think is a dead cane can and will reproduce itself. These dudes are called invasive for a reason. If you can't burn, cut them up and put them in the garbage. Do not leave them on your property. Digging them out is the only solution. If you rototill, alot of them will be got but when you til, the root is broken into pieces and each piece is capable of a new plant. It takes perseverance but the more you dig up the better. And get the new shoots in the spring right away. Happy digging.

This is definitely a nuisance at best and a potential health hazard at worst. Ring your local council and talk to the Environmental Health people - they will know exactly what can be done (if anything). As it is a private property the council can only assess the risk to public health and advise the owner to remedy potential hazards. They cannot force your un-neighbourly neighbour to clean up unless an enforceable breach is being carried out (such as harbouring vermin which affects others' properties). Other people may have complained about the same property and they are more likely to do something about it if they have. The householder still has a duty of care to reasonably protect anyone entering their property (postman, delivery people, etc) so that may be a route they could take. Poor you for having to look at the mess!

I love both fruits and fresh vegetables better, however they look and taste. You desire a little of both.

In the event that it's a fruit it includes seeds, otherwise it's a vegetable. And vegetables are usually grown in the ground while fruits are grown in trees.
