I want a goat too! They are so cool. The only thing you have to look at is keeping the little guy in. They are very onry when it comes to fencing, so something strong would be required to keep it in.

I don't really know. Depends on where you live. I live on a semi-farm-thing (like, it's 20 acres but in a neighborhood development) and I have 8 horses with a goat to keep the youngest one company. The goat is freakin annoying. I want to get rid of it. It's stubborn, and an extremely picky eater and it has a lovely talent of getting out of the paddock. When it does get out of the paddock, it tends to try and stand on my car, which does not make me very happy. Also, the little suckers feet need trimming every few weeks. They're also not indoor pets. So, I mean it depends. If you are up for that, then go for it, but make sure you have the land, etc, etc. I wish you the best of luck with getting your goat.

I guess that depends on what sort of pet you want and where you live. I grew up on a farm, and we raised goats. I even used to show them in 4H when I was a kid. They require more room than a dog, as you can't just keep them in a small backyard in the city! They are funny animals, but not like dogs! They are very stubborn and don't seem very bright( or at least ours never were). They are also great at getting out and destroying stuff. I mean, they are cute and all, and I had fun with them as a kid, but I don't think I would own them again. :-(

Hi yes they do make good pets but you need a basic knowledge on goat keeping as they do need special attension & unlike people might think they can be fussy eaters & hay after being in over night with them they will not touch it as it smalls of the shed...they need to have the proper housing & need their hooves trimming every 6 weeks at least...
Try reading up on goat keeping before you buy a goat as these charming intelligent creatures need more attension than you might think they do...Regards Jake

I have always wanted a goat I could call George. Luckily I have land for it. Just make sure if you live in the city that your ordinaces allows them. Because they are considered a farm animal. And most are not allowed in city limits. Make sure they get a proper diet everyday. For the most part they can and will eat anything. But it's better to make sure they have plenty of fruits and veggies.
Gotta get their hooves trimmed. And also decide when they are younger to de-horn them, or not. It might be easier on them if you get the horns removed. Good luck.

Goats stink. They have an odor in their skin that makes my stomach turn. It may not bother you though. They are very playful and can be quit friendly. YET, they have a tendency to be destructive and they really don't train as well as a dog.
Take Care

I had a pygmy goat that thought she was one of the dogs. She would go hiking with us and played in the creek with the dogs. I lived on a large amount of acreage, though, and wouldn't recommend them for "town" living, as they're noisy, smelly and can be destructive.

i have kept goats as pets and they are really fun. Be careful they will eat anything though, fabric, paper, trash, even had one to try to eat broken glass once. But they will bond to you like a dog will. They are rewarding to have!
