Ok I know that you introduce vegies first and only introduce one new food every week if not more. Well my mom just told me that when we were little they had to stay with the same COLOR baby food for so long (ie:if you start carrots they have to stay on carrots and squash etc). My Ped never told me that. Did any of your peds tell you to keep them on the same color vegies for awhile and how long?

Throw all that out the window.

Best first foods:
bananas
avocados
sweet potatoes

Follow that up with whatever you want really. 5 days between new foods to make sure there are no reactions. Keep breastmilk or formula as the main source of nutrition for the entire first year.....solids mostly as fun and practice.

Yes, I've heard to give all the same color foods before, but as one poster already mentioned, it will certainly turn the baby's skin that color. My niece and my daughter both acquired orange fingers, toes, nose, knee caps, and ears from eating only orange foods!

The reason for this is because you reduce the chance of food allergies if you stay in the same color family. However, if I was doing it again, I would still go with veggies first, but would give a variety of colors.

You are probably safe just doing the vegies first then the fruits. I have never heard of keeping the baby on the same color of foods.

I am a mommie of a 2 year old and a 2 month old. They say tostart on rice cereal first, but my son wouldn't eat it. So one dayI tasted it and it was gross! I mixed in the tiniest bit of applesauce, and down the hatch with smiles and giggles. He still went on to eat all the green stuff first, then squash and carrots and other fruits.

You have to keep them on a certin type of food for one week straight to make sure the child does not show signs of allergic reaction and you should start with fruit like bananas or apple sauce first and watch for an allergic reaction to the food. Fruit first then baby cereal then veggitables then baby meat

I would stick to the introduce one new food at a time rule. This way if your baby has an allergic reaction then its much easier to pin point exactly what they have eaten.

Good luck!

You can always go to gerber.com. They give good advice about introducing solids.

No. I started with a variety of vegetables. My son liked carrots though. I ended up taking him to the Doctor as I thought he had jaundice. Turned out he was eating too many carrots and was turning orange because of it.

I've never heard that and I did not do that with my children. As long as you wait about a week before introducing a new veggie or fruit I don't think it matters about the color.

My pediatrician says to give all the green vegies first then the other colored ones that are sweeter.

They didn't tell me that but when I was intorducing foods I would stick with one color like I would do all of the orange colors first they all the yellow...and so on.
