That depends on the computer.

MANY years ago, computers could not hold even that much, but now it is way BELOW the minimum most new systems need to run.

Examples: I have an "ancient" IBM mini-mainframe that only has 16MB, all it will hold. ( I still use it.) I also have a fairly new system running XP that has 2GB (2000 MB), and that is only 1/2 what it could use. And I have several in between these amounts.

Originally computers were "special" purpose, and were loaded each time they were used with the SINGLE program they needed.
Now they are "general, mulit-purpose" and run MANY programs at once, AND keep all the necessary information on storage IN the computer.

Operating systems once fit on a 720KB disc, and now require, in some cases, several 700MB CD's or even a 4.7GB DVD!!

It is called progress.

You're joking, right? It's a very small amount, unless you're living in the 1980s. Most computers today come with at least 512 MB and many come with 1 or 2 GB, which is 1024 MB or 2048 MB.

Ha Ha Ha Sory to lough but 32 mb of ram is the lowest memory avalilable not even sound cards have that low memory nowardays there are mobile phones with the equiverlent of that ram. all I am saying is that 32mb ram is not a computer but a toy mobile phone.

several years ago this was a lot. These days a lot is a gigabyte or two. 1024MB = 1GB. Many applications now require 256MB or more RAM to funtion. Some advanced CP games need 512MB and many new video cards have 512 - 1GB or RAM just for themselves! Windows operating systems after '95 will not run on 32MB of RAM.

Not anymore. The standard Video Card even has more memory than that.

Standard ram for a computer these days is around 512MB, you dont really want to go lower than that.

not really if like some one said if your running DOS fine but most computers these days come with 256 MB of RAM so if you have windows definently get more ram.

that is very slow. Maybe for windows 98 but if you want to start using programs of today you may want to have more than 256mb ram. And if you want windows xp than 512mb ram will do. But 32mb ram is too low.

no not really, but it depends on what you are doing
a good amount of ram to have is probably 1gig
ram is what makes your computer fast and keeps it fast with a combination of other things so you should look into adding more ram.
