Why get a degree? Get a job on a farm/ranch.

You could get a Bachelor of Science degree in the following: Agribusiness Management, Agronomic Business, Environmental Plant/Soil Studies, Farm Management, Fishery and Aquatic Science, Food Science, Horticultural Production, Preagricultural and Biological Engineering, Preveterinary Medicine, etc. Purdue University has an excellent Agriculture Department with several major and minor options.

I agree with the others. A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in agriculture would be useful; you should probably take some agri-business courses, too. You can concentrate on crop sciences if you plan to just raise crops, or animal husbandry if you want to raise cattle, hogs, etc. etc. Once you get into a college/university, you'll be assigned a faculty advisor who can help you select the right courses. Be ready for requirements in anatomy/physiology and possibly even chemistry. Agriculture can be a challenging academic subject. (I used to work at a small university that offered a major in agriculture)

I would think that a degree in agriculture would be good and also taking some food sciences classes wouldn't hurt.
