You can use a regular digital thermometer if you want. It really only needs to go out to 00.0. Most Basal Thermometers go out to 00.00. So it's a little more accurate. I recommend you borrow this book from your local library: Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. There is also a software you can get to go with the book it is the Taking Charge of Your Fertility Software.

Or you can go to this website is http://www.tcoyf.com/ to find out some more information first.

And you take you temperature orally, every day, immediately upon waking, before getting out of bed. You also need to do it consistantly at the same time every morning (including weekends). I'll just set my alarm, wake up take my temp, then go back to sleep. Mine keeps a record of the last temperature taken, so I don't even bother writing it down again until I wake up again later.

Also, it helps if you keep track of your cervical mucus.

Good Luck!

What do you mean by downtown? You don't have to take your temp vaginally? You can buy a basal thermometer (also called a fertility thermometer) at most drug stores for about $10. You take your temp every morning before get tin out of bed. Check out fertilityfriend.com. You can learn how to chart your daily temps and chart for free on their web-site.
