As an ex-pat working in S Korea I can speak from first hand experience.... Health Care is a very big issue.... it is supposed to be socialized however, if you cant pay... you are left on the floor in the emergency room to get your treatment... nobody is refused care however the conditions that you get the care are varied based upon your ability to pay...that is the main one that stands out to me....

They are worried about North Korea attacking them and/or hurting their reputation. People there have difficulty finding work after graduating; much of their production is outsourced to Mainland China. Some families are forced to spend most of their time in Mainland China because that's where the work is. Children in these families have to attend costly, poor quality private schools. In fact, the Chinese treat them more poorly than any other foreign groop living there (the Japanese stay out).
South Korea manufactures some of the best electronic equipment on the planet and maintains an enviable, balenced economy. They have a lot to be proud of.

The key social questions facing the average South Korean family at the moment have to do with general health and well being matters:

Issues over education, immigration, the economy, security, the availability of bottled water, aluminium foil, tinned goods and how many rolls of toilet paper do we really get though in a fortnight?

Are not uncommon; In the poorer North, however, James Dyson is not a household name.

My understanding is that they are doing fairly well in South Korea, but they fear that North Korea will open the floodgates and send all their starving masses into their society and destroy their economy. Something needs to be done about Kim Jong Il. He's oppressing his people and blaming their oppression on the US, so they think he's great and their problems are all due to Americans. Propaganda works, unfortunately.
