when people say that they are from the streets, so that they can act hard and look hard. what exactly do they mean? for example, some guy says " i'm from the streets of compton los angeles" then....... does it mean that they were born and raised in the streets and that they are homeless in which they spend all of their day 24/7 out living in the streets? OR does it mean that they do have a home to go to and sleep at, but they spend most of their day out in the streets, whether it is working a blue collar labor job, selling drugs, part of a gang, always up to no good, you get the point. so what does it mean? and why do they always expect everyone to fear them just because they from the streets?

It doesn't mean that they are homeless. It means that you were raised on the streets. Parents usually working long hours that type of thing. So the kids get in gangs, that literally walk the streets. Hang out outside.
Also, the streets is where you do your illegal business, like you said. Some thugs had to do their drug dealing to survive.
It's a metaphor for survival and being at the bottom economically.
I've been to Compton several times, during the day, it's not a comfortable place to be. You do have to be 'hard'. The moment you show weakness, you're bound to get something coming to you. Whether they beat you down to a pulp or get you to join them.
They don't expect you to fear them, they are just letting you know that they're not afraid of you. That's the mentality. I hope that makes sense.

Oh your a*s is really naive! You know what it means! You're just playing ignorant! Or are you really just that? Answer this then? What does it mean when rich people say "Oh I'm from Bel Air?" or "Brent wood?" It's the same damn thing. Meaning that they're giving you a description of where they're from. I tell you what, why don't you go to Compton and ask someone from the streets what does it mean? I bet we see you're a*s on the 6:00 news! Provided that you're not under a sheet! If you don't understand certain lingos (which I really think you do) and you're just trying to play dumb, why don't you ask a school mate or look it up in the library. And the answer to your last question sweetie, I'm a black woman from the urban section of New Jersey and hell yes I fear certain areas around our United States. So if you're not Superman with an S on your chest, I would suggest you not get your a*s caught out there in certain areas as well! Keep getting sh!t twisted! It will be a misunderstanding!

"From the streets" is supposed to mean that they are from the "hood" or have lived the hard knock life. But you know a lot of people say that they are from the streets just to make them selves sound hard. Punk A$$ dudes!

I am from the streets, it means you grew up poor and tough, you probably had 3 choices in Life, be a Priest, a Policeman or wind up in the electric chair!

to be from the streets is to see things that would scar peoples minds, like someone killing a cat, someone stabing someboby fighting and bleeding all over with no help from no one.you get use to seeing this kind of stuff that it doesn't phase you anymore.so what people say or when you make a thread it doesn't mean any thing to them anymore.you become numb to all hate no fear.

thugs dont would desire to be in gangs. GANGSTAS are many times or very virtually consistently in a collection. P.S. Gangsters and Gangstas are no longer a similar concern. i'm tremendously specific you meant Gangsta nevertheless.

It basically means your street smart. You grew up poor and can take care of yourself if you were cornered in an alley.
