I am for the part time work week. I don't think that there is that much we can't enjoy with less money. In fact, I would say that the things that are truely valuable in life are unavailable to many people because they work too much. People don't spend time with their friends or family often enough and it wears on society. Children raised by tv grow up violent, anti social, or worse, and can sometimes indoctrinate their children with the same lack of respect for the more valuable things in life. I'm an american but many of my childhood friends in the US are really hard to engage in a lengthy conversation. Sometimes I joke with my wife about counting the references to tv shows or movies that we've never seen. I think this comes from the emphasis being shifted to a production-consumption society.

I'm already living that question. I had a baby last year and my husband and I, after much discussion, decided to bite the financial bullet and drop my $32,000 a year job with benefits to become a stay-at-home mom. After giving my notice to the company I'd worked at for 8 years, my boss called me and offered to let me stay on staff as a part time employee, fully telecommuting from home with flex hours to work around my daughter's sleep schedule. I kept my benefits too. It was nice financially since my hourly wage remained the same, and the benefits were nice to have since I worked in health insurance and obviously had decent coverage, but it was exhausting to put in my hours from 7:30pm-11:00pm every night after the baby went to bed. Last month I got laid off and in a way, it was a tremendous relief. If I had to do it over again I probably wouldn't have taken the part time position. It all worked out though, the day after I got laid off a local mom's-day-out daycare program offered me a part-time position working 2 days a week for 6 hours AND I was allowed to enroll my daughter, who is now 13 months old and it's her age group I was hired to take care of. I don't have to pay for her to attend either, so in essence I'm getting paid $8 an hour to watch my own child. LOL! My husband added us to his benefits when his company switched plans at the beginning of October and the benefits are actually BETTER than when I provided them through my own company! It is very difficult getting by on an income and a half, but it's so worth it. I think if I were not taking care of my daughter I wouldn't find it as enjoyable. If my husband just made tons of money and I didn't have to work, I'd either still have to have a job or spend a lot of my time volunteering. I'd rather have a minimalist lifestyle in this situation, but my daugther is the only reason.

Wow. This is a challenging question. It would be good to work full time and make enough money to start up your own business ventures. This is part of the art of thinking big as Dr. David Swartz of “the magic of thinking big” fame and Robert Kiyosaki of “rich dad poor dad” fame preaches.
When you have enough money for small, you can start a small enterprise, and employ competent people to run it, and then you move on looking for better investment options without being tied in a particular job.
This way, you will get enough time for thinking even bigger e.g Time for family, personal development, planning, project management, e.t.c. You will have enough time for doing the stuff you normally like if you have such revenue generating enterprises.

I would prefer work full-time because I need the money and there is NOTHING to do for me the rest of the day if I work part-time. Also part-time DOESN'T pay as well if you're working full-time.

I honestly would prefer working part-time, so I could have more time to spend with my family and relaxing on my own. Working 9 to 5 and including the commuting, I rarely have time for anything else during the week.

I prefer working less. That way I can spend time with my wife, our 9-month old baby, and my other passion, music. Also less works leaves time for travel and gardening.
Also, the more money you make not only are you busy earning it but you're busy managing it and spending it (or trying to keep others from spending it).
I like simplicity so long as it allows you to focus 100% on what moves your heart. Minimalism, so long as you focus on passions, is awesome.

I work part time from home and I love it because I can be here for my children. I'd rather not have as much "stuff". That isn't necessary for a great life, anyway.
