Excellent question! Unfortunately, I am unable to provide one of my usually excellent answers.
An argument could be made that the media has created a "celebrity" obsession through its constant pounding of the theme that these truly insignificant people are somehow inherently superior to their audience. Then again, for this to work, the audience has to accept that they are.
I guess it comes down to people living lives of quiet desperation choosing to live vicariously through the accomplishments (no matter how minimal those accomplishments are) of others rather than making the effort to establish their own identity.

My wife is helping to fuel the need to know. She watches Inside Edition and Entertainment Tonight all the time. When she goes on the Internet, she is always looking at the celebrity pages. Since she is from Peru originally, she also pays attention to the gossip of Latin America too. I still do not understand the fascination she has with celebrities lives. She even watched the TV show Newlyweds, the one with Nick and Jessica, and she was floored when they divorced. I am not sure if she went so far as choosing sides, but she was upset because their show was gone. She especially has a thing for Royalty gossip too. I am not sure why, but she just loves the gossip. I am the one who pays attention to the real news.

Half of these people have made famous celebrities their god. Its who they worship and who they desire to be like. The other half are disgruntled by the fact that they are working a job that they don't like to make money that barely pays the bills.

I don't have an answer for this one. I have often wondered this exact thing and would like to know myself. Nothing could bore me more than what these people are up to.

I am a fueler. Can't get enough. Although I'm not a fan of any you mentioned, Paris does amuse me because she so dumb. I also watch reality shows. All I can tell you is "Repulsed yet compelled".

I always wondered about that too. I guess it cuz the reporters want to make money so they go snoop on famous ppl. It kinda sad cuz those famous ppl don't have any privacy for them-self.

It's insecurity. People love to see others screwing up, it makes them feel better about themselves.
