There are many factors your cousin needs to consider such as place, specialization, distinguished alumni, network opportunities, job placement and last but not least - money (how much is law school going to cost?) Public schools are usually cheaper than private schools. Among excellent law schools in public universities you can find UCLA, Ohio State, Michigan and the University of Maryland, however private schools such as Yale University, Harvard University, NYU and Georgetown University are consistently ranked as the top universities for law. Your cousin must decide what is important to him and then work on a strong application. Admission into law school is extremely competitive and requires a lot of work and effort. Good luck!

mc george law School at the university of the pacific in Stockton CA ( but on the Sacramento Campus) offers a great education at what has been called the Harvard of the West.
great small campus and you really do get to know the other students and the professors as the school is isolated from the hubbub of the sprawling main campus 50 miles away.
Justice Kennedy was tapped for the Supreme court off this campus and he had many contenders there in competition with him. It is in a rather seedy section of town, but that makes for low rent too. Sacramento has many charms and is under-rated as a city for quality of life but lower pay. Doesn't hurt to be close to the governator either. lots of politics in that town. it has a fabulous federal courthouse with good library in Scaramento. McGeorge library is wonderful too and supports many alumni in their practices in town so you brush elbows with actual attorneys a lot.
It gets hot in summer but who cares, you are back home playing big shot at that time. Never snows and is 1 hour from San Francisco nitelife. Go for it!
