mickey g and Ricky Lee's answers are false. There is no rule regarding this. The teams decide which dugout they want. I'm a Tigers fan, and their dugout has always been 3rd base.

In all the major leagues the hometeam dugout is on the first base side, with the exception of the Baby Bears(cubs) maybe they should consider changing since they havent won anything in like forever

well, i played softball for 13 years so i should remember this, but knowing me i'll probably get it backwards. the home team is always on the 3rd base side, and the away team is always on the first base side
