It means you may have or be in the process of having a miscarriage. This is often referred to as a chemical pregnancy in the early stages. Most often the reason is for chromosomal errors or other genetic problems with the embryo, resulting in your body to naturally expel it. Somewhere around half of all first pregnancies end in miscarriage.
Sorry for your loss, if it occurs.

The hcg levels should double every 2-3 days. When the numbers don't rise enough, it usually means you are in the process of a miscarriage.
I'm sorry for what you are going through. I have been there. I had a miscarriage back in December 2003. From the beginning, my OB was concerned that my numbers weren't rising properly, but she was still hopeful. It took several weeks to confirm by u/s and hcg levels that the pregnancy wasn't viable. I finally had to have a D&C at 8 weeks because I it hadn't expelled on it's own and I hadn't any spotting.
I hope your story has a better ending. Best wishes.

A threatened miscarriage (threatened abortion) occurs when the woman experiences vaginal bleeding or spotting prior to the 20th week of pregnancy. The is an extremely emotional time for a pregnant woman. The fear of lossing a pregnancy is one of the most difficult aspects to treat and care for in a threatend miscarriage.
Signs and Symptoms of Threatened Miscarriage (Threatened Abortion)
A threatened miscarriage (threatened abortion) will have vaginal bleeding or spotting which is the most common sign and symptom of miscarriage. Other possible signs and symptoms are mild abdominal cramping, and mild pain or pressure in the lower back or pelvis. In a threatened miscarriage (threatened abortion) the cervical os (cervical opening) is closed. The importance of the closed cervial os is this means that the body is not tried to expell the products of conception at that time.
Causes of Threatened Miscarriage (Threatened Abortion)
There are several different causes for a threatened miscarriage (threatened abortion). Placental abnormalities especially placenta previa can be a cause for a threatend miscarriage (threatend abortion). In placenta previa the placenta is located over the cervix os and causes vaginal bleeding usually in the second and third trimester. Typically the placenta over time will grow and move off of the cervix. However, if that does not occur then a C-section is requried at the time of delivery of the baby.
Other causes of a threatened miscarriage (threatened abortion) include infection (ie. Chlamydia, Cytomegalovirus, Genital herpes, Syphilis, Toxoplasmosis, and Rubella), uterine fibroids, sexual intercourse (extremely common since the cervix is extremely sensitive during pregnancy

2 years ago I had the same thing happen to me, I was only 4-6 weeks along and I had only known I was pregnant for a few days when it happened. I am not trying bring you down or anything but I ended up losing the baby. If this does happen to I am sorry. The thing that helped me is I had only known for such a short time so I really didn't get to grasp the fact that I was ACTUALLY PREGNANT and I know that the Lord knew the purpose for me losing the baby. I hope this does not happen to you but if it does look to God for guidence.

I had very low HCG levels for quite a while with both of my girls....You might just be one one those people that it starts off slow ,as myself....just don't stress out too much, and rest alot...Hopefully everything will be ok, but if not, It wasn't meant to be...I know it is frustrating...just keep praying... Hope all turns out ok.

threatened is better than inevitable. But it means what it says, your pregnancy is threatend right now. So take it easy and rest, and your going to have to just wait it out. I know that can be very nerve wrecking but thats all you can do. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen. I hope everything works out ok though.
