It's not a sport in terms of athletics or in the traditional sense. But it is very competitive and not only does it require a lot of skill to succeed at it requires a tremendous amount of mental and physical endurance. The World Series of Poker for example in played for at least 12 hours a day for several days.

it takes a skill to play a sport and the same thing goes for poker....so yes...you could say it is a sport.

it's a game, not a sport. it doesn't physically chanllenge you.

Isn't it ignorant to see it in the sports pages..lol..playing cards is a sport, ya , OK . It's bad enough to see wrestling in the sports pages but at least they are good athletes .
