Picking the greatest romantic songs is such a subjective exercise -- these are some of mine.
"Wicked Game", by Chris Isaak, is an very romantic song -- the video was extremely hot too. Roy Orbison is definitely one of the great "romantic" singers - his songs helped me get through my teen love years: "It's Over", "Crying", "In Dreams".. I could go on and on with Roy Orbison. Honorable mentions in my personal pantheon go to "I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner, "River Deep, Mountain High" by Ike and Tina Turner (the lyrics are quite romantic, the production is brilliantly over the top -- one of the greatest Phil Specter ever produced), "Black" by Pearl Jam, and "I'll Never Find Another You" by the Seekers. But my all-time favorite romantic song is a little known one by a singer named Eileen Rogers .. "The Treasure of Your Love". Late 50's or so, it's one that will stay with you your entire life.

La Vie en Rose, beyond any doubt.
The classic from the 40s by Edith Piaf.
I walked into work one day a few years ago humming or whistling this famous song and a co-worker said, out of the blue, "Oh my God, He's in Love!"

Honorable Mentions go to
"You" and "I Can't Make You Love Me, by Bonnie Raitt
"What Might Have Been", by Little Texas
"A Day in The Life of a Fool, by various people, especially Nana Mouskouri

Here's a slightly less famous song. It appeared in the Baz Luhrman version of 'Romeo and Juliet' which was abismal, but this song is beautiful. Desree-Kissing You

There's two for me and they're about as different as you could possibly get.
The first is Savage Garden "I Knew I Loved You", I love that song, it was the first dance at my wedding and it always reminded me of my husband even before we were married.
The second, which may suprise you, is Madonna "Crazy for You" - it's the words - if you listen to them they're really beautiful.

I think the most romantic song is any song that means something special to the people listening to it. I know that I think the song my husband and I danced to at our wedding is but someone else might not think so. You know what they say "Music makes the world go around".
