My daughter & friends were very upset when they found the cut marks on her friend's arm...they went to a trusted teacher and are having a meeting with school counselor today...I am worried, but I don't want to make too big of a deal about it as it may upset mine more...any thoughts that can help?

Tell her you are sorry to hear about her friend and her cutting problem..Please let her know that you are there for her and that cutting is a very bad and dangerous thing to do to yourself. Make sure she knows that you love her very much and cares about her feelings. Even tho she is only 12 years old this can be very traumatic for her as she is on the verge of being a teenager and therefore a young lady instead of a child.

Try to talk to your daughter’s best friend. The girl needs someone’s attention and help. If she’s upset try to talk to her more. Cutters once started you can’t stop them unless you divert their mind into something. If they’re very disappointed they want to cut themselves more. Why not try to talk to her mother or someone closer to her? About her related problems… in school, house, or anything that can give some information.

Just dont let urs get the feeling this way that aint never good..and maybe you should try and help out her friend with her problems and the reason why shes doing this before it ends up being your own child..hope everything goes well!

Tell her that she should support her friend while her friend is working to get better. And that depression is like a disease, and it will take a while for her friend to get better. That all your daughter can do is listen to her friends prolbems, and be strong in helping her friend not cut herself anymore.
