they bite.

I think hamsters are best, plus you don't have to venture out into the cold to clean them out in winter or put up with hot smelly poo in the summer.

Well firstly I must warn you - guinea pigs are addictive. At the moment I have 11. The reason I love them so much is because they do not bite (I have had them for 12 years and never been bitten), they make cute noises, they look cute and chubby, and they don't run around when you hold them (unlike hamsters, rabbits and gerbils..etc...) They are also not nocturnal so you can hold them whenever. People often say they are shy, but these guinea pigs aren't handled enough and most that are in petshops aren't kept in a nice way and to end up being very skittish. Mine are all cheeky litter buggers and will do anything for my attention.

Do not get one - they are social animals. Guinea pigs won't be any fun on their own, they will not be as tame and will not relax with you. They need a cagemate.

I have a guinea pig. He is very sweet but he doesn't really do much. They are extremely nervous creatures but if spoken to softly & handled gently on a regular basis they will soon come around. They apparantly make excellent pets & are very friendly. They very rarley bite unless they feel extremely threatened. If you are going to have one then I would have it as an indoor pet rather than keep him outside. They like a lot of love and affection. Make sure you can give them the attention that they need & deserve before you get one. They need to be cleaned daily. They feed on dry foods such as guinea pig nuggets but also need plenty of fresh fruit & veg. You'll get to know their cute little squeaks especially when they know their food is coming !!!!

sweet gentle creatures that need loving gentle homes. Unlike hamsters, they rarely bite but because they do not defend themselves small children are often too boisterous and can hurt them. If handled regularly, they are lovely. If you buy a long coated variety - you must brush and comb him every day gently - do not hurt him. They eat fresh veg and fruits and need daily clean bedding and straw/hay, and water. Don't put with rabbit - the rabbit may hurt him. Two guinea pigs are best

Guinea pigs are fantastic, we had a few when I was growing up, they were so friendly and excellent pets for both indoors and out. Had a hamster after our last guinea pig died, didn't compare.

They are great pets and make the sweetest sounds especially when they hear the russel of a carrier bag!l had 3 boys but they turned gay and wouldn't stop humping which the kids did not like watching and when they picked them up to stroke them they had sticky goo all over their fur which wasn't very nice so get girls!!

They are lovely, they are easier to look after than some pets. They can also live inside or outside and can socialise with other guinea pigs.

guinea pigs are lovely, we had one called Boris. He was so friendly and they squeak and it's lovely to listen to. Do get one, they don't answer back either! They don't live for too long, bit like a hamster, but he won't sleep all day like a hamster!

i love guinea pigs! they are so cute. they sqeual and such once they get comfortable around you. our never bit me. he lived to be 4 or 5 years old which is there normal life expectancy. as long as you handle them regularly they shouldnt bite. mine nibbled on me but all small animals do that to "test" out their environment. i would let our run around on the kitchen floor. and sit there with him. you just need to keepo an eye on them so they dont chew on any wires or plastic and furniture and enythign else you dont want to be chewed up. he seemed to act just liek a dog. he LOVED lettuce. when we would let him fun around i would open the fridge door and he would run over, squeal and start jumping as soon as he heard the bag of lettuce lol. he would to the same thing in the cage too. iw as extrememly allergic to him though! my mom got him as a present for my younger brother as a responsibility thing, but i ended up cleanign is cage out and all that cause noone else wanted anything to do with him. so theres somethign else you should look out for. you should go to the pet store and hold one just to make sure you are not allergic to the dander. i just did that the other day. went and held a chinchilla to see if i would be allergic to it cause im planning on getting one in a few months and thank goodness im not! it also nibbled on my finger and was surprised it didnt bite me! lol

anyways guinea pigs make great pets. and are very loving and easy to bond with and absolutely love lettuce. =)

you will also need to make sure you keep their nails trimmed. we always had to cut his.

seriously if you can put in the owrk at the beginning when you get them then they are brilliant creatures, we've got 2 and the sit on your knee for hours and will fall asleep. if you take them out when you first get them and let them get used to you then they are the best pets to get especially if there is chilren about. never bite either and i know about biting i have a hamster.

They are really fatty when you hold them, like holding jelly. I am used to animals with muscle like a cat or dog, so it was really gross to hold a guinea pig.
