I mean, when you know something, you think, consciously, you know that thing (or set of things). My issue is: how can you know that you know what you think to know?

I ask this because, according to my understanding, to know something is ontologically different than to think that I know something.

I don't know you, but I find interesting thinking about this. Tnx for the posts in antecipation!

I'm going to throw out Plato's Allegory of the Cave here. If you have or get a chance to read it, you will see that the characters percieved something that wasn't the actual thing. So what Plato is saying is that there is what we percieve and what really is. I believe bound to only that which we percieve we cannot know the true nature of things. However, we do comprehend the stimuli of our senses. Therefore, we know what we percieve. It is all we can know. It is adequate and functional. So don't worry, you know what you know. Ya know?

To know a rose do you have to actually see a rose? I think it is not necessary. You have seen a flower actually, long time ago and you have been told it is a rose. Your mind has registered it for ever. That is it.
Whenever you see a rose again , THAT registered image superimposes the actual thing and confirms it is a rose. Then you know that you know what you think to know.

There is one other thing that you ( we) ought to know in this whole process. There is something within us that constantly illuminates everything. LIke the powerful arclight on the stage. when there is an action on the stage , they are illuminated .

When , in the mind ( called the stage) there is a thought and a related image the CONSCIOUSNESS or AWARENESS illuminats the whoel thing. That is why the human being is recognising the things.

That is a very interesting question!!!
The thing about this question is you just know.
It is very simple, but difficult to explane. The truth in your subconcious is a ready there. you just have not acknowledged that. Fallow you instincts and dont ask questions you already know the answer to.

according to constructivism, you don't. The world you see is defined by your assumptions, and doesn't necessary have to do anything with reality. As everyone sees the world a little differently, you can only assume you know.

Because everyone often agrees "she knows what she is talking about"

Thus I know what I know about who and what I know you know?

I just know! :)

Until it's put to the test however, there's no concrete proof.
