download HijackThis and run it. It will identify your virus stuff and what's going on in your registry. You can post your results and let the experts figure it out if you're not comfortable yourself.

1. Download the tool from the link below:
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the contents of the tool on your desktop.
2. Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
3. Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
4. Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
5. Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
6. Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
7. You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry
keys associated with the infection.
8. The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
9. A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Some one at work tried the downloading of some bogus anti virus software that was suppossed to be free...and now it gets pop ups everytime you log into explorer....I have run the anti virus and it cant delete it.....so until there is a fix by the anti virus companies it'll sit there.....By the way...it's a trojan.

It is a virus and it over rides your scanners none of the stuff people has recommended is going to remove it, Here is the link that will ,If it has a little yellow triangle with a ! in the middle of it do not click it either and do not download there stuff.It is all one big virus. I think that if you go into the options menu, you can turn off (allow pop-ups) This will then block all pop-ups from appearing

download the free avg antivirus,antispyware, and the free adaware update them and run them in safe mode if you get something thats an infected imbeded object go back and follow the instructions for removing viruses manually

have you tried spybot search and destroy,,,,,and ad-aware,there free downloads,if you haven't tried them i suggest you give them a try.they work great at getting that crap out your computer.
