Your question has a very broad answer. What I can tell you about this topic is just an approximation of the greek philosophy contributions to mankind:

1) The greek philosophy was the first to give a rational explanation of the phenomena in nature. Some of the greatest philosophers (from Tales de Mileto to Aristoteles) set apart the misticism of the primitive religions to get closer to the true nature of the events happening in our universe and gave explanations based in a measured thinking and direct observation of things around.

2) Other contribution was the true sense of being conscious of oneself. Some philosophers (example Socrates, Zeno, Plato, etc.). tried to put the man in the center of the then known universe. Gods are separate entities from one's will. They were the first humanists of all time.
