I home-school by DVD and I'd rather watch it on my PC than my TV. I have Windows Media Player and Apple Quick Time but I don't know what they do or what I need. Do I have to have software? I don't have a clue.

Just make sure you have a DVD-ROM. That is different than a CD-ROM. If you have a DVD-ROM, you should be fine.

If your computer doesn't have a DVD software you need to get a DVD/CD-Rom drive and then download a DVD sofetware. IF you don't have a DVD drive, it may not work well when you download a DVD software. RealPlay plays DVD too

It depends if you computer has a Dvd Drive. If not you can't watch dvd's on it . But if you do you might need to download dvd software to play it.
