My husband wants to leave to take our almost 3 year old trick or treating at 6 o'clock! I think it's too early, aren't people still eating dinner at that hour? And I want our son to be able to see all the other kids dressed up... I was thinking more like 7 or 7:30. He says things are different here in the south (SC) than in the north (NY) where i'm from.

What time should we go out tomorrow?

I say anytime between 6 and 8. Since he is younger I would go earlier.

We are in canada and the time changed back an hour on the weekend so it is dark at 5ish now. We find that most folks expect the kids out around 5:30 or 6:00. (at least the younger ones) this gets them home and in bed at a decent hour as they have school and we have work the next day. The rotten teenagers |(lol) dont start until about 7 or so and I dont like my kids mixed up with them. This way i can let my 15 yr old son shell out the treats to the younger set and then i am home with my 9 yr old by 7 or so to deal with any potential problems rom the older kids.
Just my 2 cents worth

In our community (Western Pa near New Castle area), we have set times to go. These times are posted in our local paper. That way everyone knows what time to bother people. And normally the houses with lights on are the houses passing out candy. Our trick or treating is Oct 31 from 5pm-7pm eastern time.

It differs from place to place. Most the communities where I am do it from 6 to 9pm but on the military post it is from 5 to 8pm. We are taking our kids to the mall and I know it is from 6 to 9pm as well. When we lived in the south we always started around 6pm especially on a school night. Good luck!

No on Halloween. People are getting ready for the kids.. People trick or treat all day! We normally just do whatever, and then when the kids come for candy, we just give it to them.. It doesn't interfere with our dinner or anything else. 6 pm is fine.
