Seems to me with Bush and his supporters in charge we're more likely headed for the dark ages. At least when Kennedy said "Let's go to the moon!!" he actually did something about it. Kennedy the "liberal" with a "liberal" congress did all that can you imagine?

There are huge technical issues to overcome in getting humans to Mars and back alive. The trip to the moon is about a week, there and back. A trip to Mars and back will take at least two years, and probably more! Plus, there's an issue, I understand, regarding the radiation in space - it would kill the crew if they were exposed for so long. (I believe we're protected in Earth orbit.)
Plus, we have priorities on Earth.
I think the best way to get there is to keep developing our technology - one day we should be advanced enough to make the trip much more feasible.
I'm not sure I'll live to see it. But maybe folks born this year will, before they die.

I think not only will they send someone to Mars but they are probably working on trying to find another planet to live on since this one is being destroyed. Of course it would be for the very rich and powerful. Who knows, Trump might have already broken ground on Mars for luxurious condos with views of the Earth.

Yes the USA will land Mankind on MARS.
Bush will need a place to hide after all he has done to this world...not much good either in my book.
