I find it an insult that our government has been using fossil fuel as a source of revenue for years and NOW we are the ones who have to pay for global warming! where's all that revenue gone? and why wasn't some ringfenced to pay for the development of new environamentally safe fuel and renewable fuel?

Britain reached peak oil production in the 1980s, which the Thatcher government using the money to pay benefits to all the unemployment that her policies caused at that time. Compare that to Norway, whose oil and gas production has been on a gradual ramp up since the early 1970s. A portion of the government revenues have indeed been invested for when the oil runs out. Oh, and Norway has the highest standard of living in the world, despite having some of the highest taxes.

Gordon Brown's management of the oil industry has been equally short sighted and incompetent. Just as the industry had cut investment in the late 1990s as oil prices had gone below $10.00 a barrel, come the early 21st. Century, Brown slaps on a "windfall" tax of 10% as the prices rise again. The major oil companies shrug and go elsewhere in the world. Plus Brown is never trusted again, just when we needed the investment in the industry.
The government has not invested in green technologies, leaving technologies initially designed in this country to be developed in places like Denmark. Britain has some of the worst recycling facilities in Europe. Between Labour and Conservatives there has been NO leadership or vision.
Angry? We all should be!

All governments are self-seeking scumbags! There are a very few individuals who have the country's well being at heart and at the forefront of their political career. Government's main aim is to look good enough to be voted in at the next election, thereby ensuring that each minister keeps his salary and pension.
If Tony, our dear Leader, told me the sky was blue with white clouds, I would go outside and check on it.
Tony Bliar would have been just as happy to be a pop star as a politician. Tony Blair is what matters most to Tony Blair.

They have been treating their own people hypocritcially for years. I've seen enough poverty and homelessness among decent British people (whilst immigrants drive round in flash cars waving huge wads of dosh about) to see this.

Oh and the government and big business caused global warming in their constant greed to make money. Now they're trying to make old Mr Jones down the road feel guilty about using his car or leaving his lights on when he's out, While those overpaid scumbags drive round in their Two Jags and private jets and live in huge houses that cost £100,000s to heat.

Experience has taught me governments of any political hue are not to be trusted, mendacity is their stock-in- trade. For the past few days our present government and the Dear Leader have been telling us we must pay more taxes to save the world!. As far as I am concerned they have no credibility left on these issues because they have cried 'wolf' too often. If America,China and India refuse to help cut pollution we (Britain) are largely wasting our time. The name of the game is to tax us until the pips squeak but people are only now beginning to realise that Brown's 'stability' is because of the horrendous taxes we are forced to pay.

Yes. This is not a partisan answer because all governments are responsible for this. Most ministers are self-serving and care little about their constituents (unless its election time) or the environment.

The answer to this problem has to come from the nation as a whole to do our bit to reduce endergy wastage.

Yes, the civil servants and politicians who decided to exploit our North Sea oil without any thought to the future should now be placed on trial and if found to be negligent should face life imprisonment for betraying the country they had sworn to defend.
