to fight the war on terror???
I understand that some folks are only trying to help, but many, many others are 'speaking out of orafices that speech is not intended to flow from'.
In the movie 'Braveheart', Longshanks threw his son's gay lover out the window, for 'claiming' to understand the skills of warfare. Good idea? Maybe just wishful thinking?
Just a question from one vet to another.

To ALL - Isn't it amazing. That soooo many fools hide within their own ignorance. When all we ask of them is to support us, or join us. A 'thank you' would be nice, but other than that, we'd just assume you learn from us.

Tell him that honorable Americans all support him. Tell him that we really care. And tell him to ignore ignorance, no matter how hard that is to do. Thank you and God Bless you and yours.

I shake my head in wonder at either their simplistic naivete or their safe armchair intellect.
I served in the Navy during peacetime with many Vietnam service people that wised me up to the "peace loving American public" they came home to. A large number stayed in the serve, some switching from Army to Navy but they stayed in for the comfort zone of people they could talk to and relax around.
My son joined the Army right after 9/11 . He is a Ranger and has served in Iraq. It is his opinion of how things are going in Iraq and what needs to happen there in the future , I will believe before I will give one iota to the "citizen that can't stand war " or "its all for oil " groupies.
God help me - I still believe I will die defending your rights. Even as you wipe your feet on mine.

I too am a Nam vet, but while I agree I also disagree. It ticks me off when people make assumptions about a period of history they know nothing about (60s-70s) But at the same time I spent that year in hell to protect their right to do just that.
Our VA hospitals would have to disintegrate in a major way in order to reach the level that we did not enjoy during the Vietnam years. And anyone complaining about the care they are getting now had better have a look at the battles their dads (us) fought in congress to improve the quality of care our soldiers receive.
Our joke at Fitzimmons was that our ward was cleaned on the third Thursday of the month,,,, if it needed it or not.

I somewhat resent it when they harp about what we need to do, asa it seems that all the non vets think nothing of sending our troops off to die, if you aren't willing to serve then shut up is usually what i tell them. I fought in Viet Nam, an unpopular war, we got no welcome home until 20 someodd years later. When I visited the wall in DC last year I cried like a baby, and after paying my repects it was only other vets who said welcome home bro. as we all greet each other that way. I respectfully disagree with the vet who works at the va my co pays have hit the roof I am disabled, and it takes forever sometimes to see a doc, and often its a different one each time, meds are often late, although sometimes my diabetic meds come in bulk, I saw a retired major get boobs when a diabled bro needed a new leg, go figure, maybe it depends on which va hospital?

Every body claims to support the troops. Some do so by backing war. Others by not wanting to send young people to fight an illegal and immoral war. To the pro-war side, I ask, did you know that the Republican majority on the House Budget Committee in March rammed through a resolution that would cut $844 million from veterans’ medical care for next year? At the same time, they managed to come up with $900 million to give to Dick Cheney’s old company Halliburton and a few other big Republican sugar daddies who will quite conveniently be rebuilding Iraq after the war.
Over the next 10 years, the Republican changes would cut $24.7 billion from veterans’ medical care, disability compensation and other benefits. Just when they send our young men and women into military action in Iraq, the Republicans back home chop their current and future benefits. This includes, by the way, payments to their families, should they be killed in action. This is just the first step. Veterans can expect more cuts. The rich can expect more tax breaks. And the rich seldom have their children serve in the military. And guess what? Of the 434 members of Congress in the House, how many do you think has a son or daughter in the military? Just one. Thank you, Congress, for supporting our troops.
Wake up, people.
EDIT:
So this is your reply... a thumbs down? How can you dare bring up veterans, your support of the party that does this shows just how shallow your support really is!!!!
Edit...I m a Viet Nam vet with 2 tours of duty

As a serving Soldier I figure that everyone has a right to express their opinion of how they think the so called war on terror should be fought.
I have to wonder about any American who thinks that murdering people for expressing a differing opinion is a good idea.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion... but it hurts to see so many of these people talking out of their rectums on a subject they know absolutely nothing about. Even worse, we have some on here who alter information as propaganda to purposely shine a very negative light on the military, the administration, and the soldiers. This absolutely sickens me to no end.
I also hate the ones that fall so easily into some of the crap propaganda. That propaganda is so easily spotted by those of us who were actually in the armed services, but these people swallow it hook, line, and sinker,. and regurgitate it like there is no tomorrow. A little common sense would help these people, but it seems like that comodity is in very short supply.

Personally I dismiss opinions on here given by people who are not veterans. As for Vets benefits being cut, that is bull crap. I work at a VA hospital, none of our vets do without, I can assure you.

but your talking about soldiers what are trained in small group warfare , not entire campaigns or battles. Why would their opinion be any better than a civilians. It is obvious from America's failure in Iraq tha the American commanders have a small grasp of history. the American military made the same mistake in Vietnam and have made the same mistake in Iraq.
How would a vet unless he is trained in history have the slightest grasp of the complexities of the situation, Americans are renown for their inability to perceive the enemy's situation except from an American philosophical and cultural point of view. Consequently America's loss in Korea, Vietnam , Cambodia and now Iraq. Afghanistan is looking pretty shaky too

get a clue. In war a terrorist will not stand and fight, they are cowards, they do the dirty work behind our backs. Just like Nam. A terrorist would never face our Marines in a fair fight. they also would not even face the average American in a fair fight. What you don't get is that terrorist are cowards. BTW, Our service men do not pay any attention to politics, they could care less. They care about staying alive one more day, that's it. Now tell me How many members of Congress or family are in Iraq now fighting?
