a party claims it will change the policey of higher income tax, another says it will cut the 'stealth taxes' of the current government. Both say they will fund this with new 'green taxes' hitting the highest poluters.

Claims are also made that a party can have green credentials if it supports these green taxes. However it is necessary for the green taxes to be ineffective in cutting emissions or else no/little revenue will be generated to cover the costs of the policy changes, thus continuing current (high if you are a con) tax rates will be necessary.

What is the purpose of taxing polluters?

1)to raise revenue, to cut other taxes, thus make political advantage
2)to save the planet
3)can both actually be done???!!

If goverments were really concerned they would subsidise electric cars. solar panels and other equipment to enable us to become self sufficient. The trouble with that is all the revenue they gain from power, water, and petroleum companies would be lost.

I wonder where most of the parties donations are coming from?

Probably not. Making businesses conform to green policies or pay higher taxes reduces federal revenues because they reduce profit. If you reduce profits, businesses and anyone twith a 401K or other investment stop spending. Stop spending and people get laid off.

Green taxes are just another way to target corporate America. Even though, ironically, those taxes would just be handed down to the consumers and cost jobs along the way. The goal is to halt business.

At least greens are more respectable about their tax policies: They differ from 'other' liberals by not pretending to like poor people--or any people.

When will people realise that this British Government would tax the air we breathe if they could get away with it (they probably could). This sudden desire to save the planet (which is a highly commendable idea) is just another whiz by the Bliar gang. Now that their scheme to tax your home on where you live and the facilities inside home is out in the open they are trying to deny it,the surest sign that it is true. Perma tanned Peter Hain is claiming that this scheme which is being introduced in Northern Ireland is purely for that Province, what a lie!.Remember the Poll Tax being tried out in Scotland?.

i recognize this would not answer your question re. loss of tax revenues, yet this argument approximately people who do no longer smoke shop the NHS money. Why, are they going to stay perpetually? of course no longer, they are going to ultimately die of a few thing and be a burden/fee to the NHS and/or their kin. interior the interim, they might have drained a fortune out of the distinctive pension schemes. Politicians are devious cynics, they recognize that many won't stop smoking, and, for human beings that do, added green taxes will %. up the deficit. interior the interim it is going to look as though they're looking after us. finally, the passive smoking argument is grossly exaggerated, as is the so stated as added fee to the NHS.
