NO NO NO NO!!!! I find it very sad when I see a child running around on a cell phone. A couple weeks ago I was at a car cruise and 2 girls that couldn't have been more than 9 years old were talking on their cells and I swear I think they were talking to each other!! not to mention the language that was coming out of there mouths!! Words I don't even say and I am 27! My 8 yr old asked me if he could get a cell and I informed him that when he could get a job and pay his own bill then we would talk! Till then he has no one that it is that important to speak with at all times!! I mean my kids are almost always with me or at least another adult when they aren't at school. So why do they need a cell?? Makes no sense to me at all! In just my opinion I find them to be a lazy parents way of babysitting their children. They figure if anything is wrong the child has a phone to call for help. But my thought to that is what the heck is your child that hasn't even hit puberty yet doing out without an adult some were around!!

I think that some cellphone use is reasonable depending on the amount of autonomy that a child has. If your kid goes to soccer practise and piano lessons and violin lessons and you can't pick them up right away wouldn't you want to be able to let them know? And if your child gets into trouble, don't you want to know? There are cell phones that are made for younger people that only enable them to call a pre-set group of phone numbers. Those are excellent compromises. Children have people that they can contact in case of emergency, but they can't just contact anyone.

In my opinion, no. Kids should not be allowed to use them because they have no cause. If they need to phone a friend, they can use a normal phone. I think that kids only carry them around because they want to fit in, or draw attention to themselves. People have cell phones for business or because they can afford it. Kids have no business to conduct and they don't need to talk to their friends on wasted air time. With cyber bullying being so prevalent, kids shouldn't have the opportunity to send text messages which can emotionally damage others.

The only thing reason I can see kids having cell phones is the ones where they can only push buttons that dial home or grandma's or whatever. Other than that, kids having phones is ridiculous!

I don't think kids should have phones. I work for a cell phone company and think its insane that parents give their 7 year old a phone, and then wonder why their bill is a million dollars..I don't think you should have a phone until your over 14 or responsible and know the value of a dollar. I didn't have a phone until I was 18 and could pay for it myself. Give the kids some change and tell them to use the pay phone!

YES.These days number of crimes has increased & it is better to have a mobile these days.It was different earliear.Todays times should not be compared with earlier times.Even I have a mobile & i'm 15 but I make sure that it does not interfere in my studies.Having a mobile is a must but it should not be misused. It can be said that there should be limits for the child to use his/her mobile .Its easier for me to contact my parents at the time of an emergency.

Youngsters should not be allowed to use mobile, it is harmful even for grown ups, but unfortunately we have to use it in our daily life, I received an email saying that you can boil an egg if you place it between two mobiles while there is someone using them, I don't know how much of that is true, but I know that it is really harmful

No no no! If an adult hands them the mobile to say "hi" to someone they are speaking with then yes. Otherwise, kids have no place or need to have mobile phones in their possession. They are a major distraction in their lives both at school and in the home and a ticket for trouble. Kids need to be kids!

The underlying assumption in the question is that youngesters would misuse it as they lack self-discipline. The real issue to address is to inculcate self-discipline in youngesters. If it is there , youngesters will never fall prey to any diversion now or in future. We can not turn away our back to the developments that take place around us. Fifty years back it was films and radios, few years back it was cable TV, now it is internet and mobile. Self-discipline has taken youngesters through these temptations earlier also and would take them through in future also.
