i have a 2000 chevy s10 2.2 liter flex fuel. I drove the truck around all weekend and every thing was fine. No noises, gauges all read fine. It was very cold This morning, and i went outside to start it, and i heard a loud sound like the engine was shaking. I shut it off then waited a few minutes, now when i try to start it the engine tries to turn over, but it stops and all i hear is the belts or pulleys spinning. I just replaced the alternator a couple months ago. Any body have any ideas what this could be.

Either a lack of fuel or no spark.

First, Don't pull the positive cable loose! Always pull the negative off first and put it on last. You probably won't hurt anything but you can cause severe damage to your electrical system but pulling the positive off first. If you want to disconnect the battery you can do that by only taking the negative loose. But always remember to break or complete the circuit on the negative side.

Now that we have that clear. Doing that ain't gonna help you anyway. I'm not there but it doesn't sound like there is anything wrong with your battery or electrical system. However, the battery may be losing voltage depending on how many times you've "tried it again" hoping that it might work. Sometimes they do fix themselves but I'd bet against that this time around.

I agree more withthe first answer. Either you are not getting spark or fuel. There could be many reasons for that. I'm not sure if that engine has a timing belt or chain but I'd imagine it's a chain. I had a timing chain in my truck break one time and then, once the cam wouldn't turn I was dead in the water. There was no way for me to limp it home even. That caused my engine to not ge tthe fuel, or actually the correct ful/air misture and at the right time. It could be many things causing it from, fuel issue, ignition issue, starter/flywheel/flexplate issue, internal component issue.

If you don't have any lead and reading these answers doesn't get you anywhere you really ought to take it to a professional or at least seasoned mechanic that has a good understanding as to how these things work.

Basically I'll give you possibilities but I cannot and I don't think anyone else here will be able to do more than point you in possible directions without seeing the vehicle or getting any diagnostic info in some other way. Based on what we get from your question it could still be many many possibilities.

Sorry there is no real concrete answer for you. Good luck.

You do have a gas decrease off swap which will decrease off the gas in the time of an effect besides the shown fact that it must be a quite stable bang to make it kick and if it does the vehicle will nevertheless crank yet merely won't get gas. If it won't crank that may not your difficulty. verify your battery and connections through fact the jolt might have jarred some thing loose. verify your door jambs to work out if there is better than one swap it rather is depressed by potential of the door. One is for the dome easy and there could be one to maintain it from commencing while the door is ajar yet could be quite unusual. the main element i might advise is to take off your kick panel on the facet you hit and spot if while the hinge bent returned it knotted up some thing the place your computing gadget is placed. maximum autos have the computing gadget in the back of the kick panel and a stable lick there might desire to rather knock some thing loose interior that would desire to end the vehicle from commencing.

Check the battery to see if it is up to par,if not take the positive cable off for about 15 or 20 seconds and then replace it and see if this helps, this will reset the computer.

If you just hear a spinning noise, the starter Bendix is probably shot. That would have been the noise you heard.

Could be something in the fuel system. Also check your distrubituor. Another thing that could cause it not to start in the cold is the coolant temperature sensor, which basically if broke, it thinks your vehicle is in the tropics, therefore you car won't start in the cold.

Do you mean while the engine is turning over, the engine stops turning and you hear a whining noise?
That's a starter problem...ie...loose starter or Bendix disengaging.

Could be fuel or ignition system. Check to see if the engine light is on. If it is, take it to a garage.
