The best example I can give of this is to use Prohibition.

After the U.S. tried its failed social moral experiment, aka Prohibition, the organized criminal elements, aka Mobs/Mafia, gained incredible power and substantial money.

After a decade or so, congress realized that 1. Everyone still drank, 2. The illegal trade of alcohol was funding criminals, 3. The cost of attempting to stop the trade was staggering and 4. The government could not collect tax revenue on the illegally sold booze.

Yet, here we are 80 years later and we still have many laws on the books that are virtually Prohibition. The laws against, drugs and prostitution come to mind. Yet, even though we KNOW the outcome, we continue to think said laws and billions and billions wasted taxpayer monies will stop it. In the meantime, criminals are making all the money and taxpayers are paying all the expense. Seems stupid to me.

Another example is the current banning of "gay marriage", how any rational, logical person can say that DISCRIMINATION, of any kind, is right, totally blows my mind.

History repeats itself because our species refuses to learn from it. For example, after the genocide of 6 million Jews during World War II, one would thing that we would have learned something. Not! Since then genocides have occurred in Rwanda and currently The Sudan.

History doesn't repeat itself. There are always incidents in history which carry reminders of other incidents, and what you might call historical cycles, but any resemblances of one event to another previous one are always superficial; each event is unique in many more ways than they're alike.

Because there is no learning from experience when it comes to people about people. Its a myth. History records it as so. Just take war as an example!
