But as you said you have removed some entries in the registry then probably the norton uninstall program will not work even if you get your admin rights. For that use a simple free registry cleaner. Need not use any trial versions. Free RegScrubXP registry cleaner

Here are instructions to use it.

Also advisable to use a good free program that many people on this site advise. It is ccleaner. It removes leftover entries , dlls and other files created by the installed program. Here is how to use ccleaner.

Always use free softwares that are fully functional so that you do not become lame after a trial version of a program expires.

there are programs on the net you can download called Norton removal that removes all instances of Norton on your PC. Also you can try putting in back the CD and selecting uninstalling for a full removal. If not just log in under your administrator account and remove the parental option.

login with admin account.
Install ccleaner(cleaner.com) and uninstall whatever you don't like such as norton.
get avg or avast antivirus . get zonealrm free firewal. Secure your pc.
if you still can't uninstall norton, delete files from program files manually. Then go to start>run>regedit. search for symantec or norton from search menu. delete all.

Sorry that you have to learn the hard way. I test antivirus/antispyware program in my spare time to see if they perform as claimed an if they have hidden embedded spyware in their programs.
Nortons has been garbage for years an each an every passing year they continue to get worse.
Testing Nortons was a living H E L L, because when I attempted to remove the program after I saw how it destroyed almost everything in my system. I found out after I went to add/remove that the program was removed. But to my surprise it really was not removed. Atleast not all of the program, because I had 350 plus fragments left glued to all my files and hidden all over my system.
Even if you to to run: and type in c://program files click on browser, click on program files and look for "symantec", it will not allow you to remove the file. Says, "file is in use", unable to remove".
Here is how I was able to remove all the fragments. I have a purchased program that I have used for atleast nine years an it is 100% safe when it comes to automatic removal of registry keys.
Registry First Aid. Download from http://www.rosecitysoftware.com During the evalauation period with the instruction I am going to give you, should be able to remove symantec safely.
When Registry First Aid installs, click on "Check Registry for Errors", or it will start on it's own. First it will back up your entire registry. After then scan remove all the check marks with green, yellow and red. Don't be afraid to remove the red, because I remove them an they have no impact on your system.. But you can always go to search files and type in "backups", when your system scan you will see "RFA backups", the one at the top is where you open and you will see all the deleted registry key. You can delete or restore if necessary.
Now here is where you will get rid of all of the 350 fragments left in your registry. Click on "Search The Registry, and at the top type in "symantec", and then click on add. Again at the top type in nortons and click on add. Now it should show two names witha check mark for RFA to scan. When the scan is completed,
left click on each an every key that has come up and drop down where you see an arrow pointing down to where it reads, "delete string". You want to show "delete string". Then run fix an all will be deleted, plus you have the backup.
Now reboot your system. An then go to run and type in c://program files as states above an "symantec", you should be able to remove the file.
Here is an excellent state of the art antivirus program that is free an is light years ahead of any free or purchased program out there. I use if for over nine years and never had one virus.
httt://www.avast.com
Has a real time scanner running in the background that is excellent for catching any virus on a webpage in realtime and destroy. You get frequent daily updates an excellent support. Plus this program is free of any malware.
They will ask you for your email address so they can send you a free key that you must install. The key is good for one year. After one year you must request another key. Their corporate avast is the exact same, they just make corporate pay.
Hope the above helps you.

that is not recommended to have better than 2 antivirus softwares in one pc. this might reason conflict with one yet another. If the two antivirus softwares detects a similar virus via making use of realtime scanning or heuristics, it is going to reason the pc to freeze. in case you desire to verify your pc with Norton, you may desire to uninstall Avast.
