I converted to 'Democrat' because the overwhelming hatred that Republicans have for Democrats conflicted heavily with my Christian faith.
I lost respect for Republicans because they are all about hating Democrats. Nothing more.

I'm sure people do switch back and forth. My Mom became a Democrat about the same time my Dad became a Republican! (They had both been affiliated with the opposite party.)
I do suspect that some of the people posting here as "former Republicans" are not being honest. Then again, I truly was a Democrat before switching to Republican in the last six or eight years. (I voted for Clinton each time! Yuck!) But I can't "prove" my statement any more than those folks can.

While there are many moderate Republicans these days, such as George W Bush, most will not sway back to the Democrats because they are so far left of center.
There are no conservative Democrats, the party has routed them from their presence. There are a few moderate Democrats but they are just a few hold outs who can run their own campaigns because the DNC is not sharing money with any but those loyal to their agenda.
The few conservative democrat holdouts who were raised to hate Republicans so much that they can not vote GOP tend not to vote at all. Their upbringing doesn't allow them to vote GOP and their conservative beliefs don't allow them to vote Democratic.

Usually, when people grow up they become more conservative. Liberals are like little children, whining and complaining. Sometimes a person calls themselves a republican, but they are just a minor with sheep's clothing. You have to watch out for silly liberals because they spew garbage and hate under various titles.

I take care of myself and do just fine as a democrat. I am older than most of you on here and I can tell you that when you REALLY grow up you will become a democrat.

While your contention used to be the case, Republicans are converting because the party has totally abandoned its historic principles, including the basic principles of conservatism. With nowhere else to go, they naturally choose the only other viable option.
Why do neo-cons claim to be Conservatives? Their history disproves it. Their actions disprove it.

that's no longer an fairly good reason to "replace into" a democrat. merely tell him to vote for the candidate, no longer the occasion. If he's so ashamed to tell human beings he's a republican, he ought to easily call himself an autonomous. that's what the the remainder of the GOP is doing.

It still holds true. When you are young and inexperienced you believe being liberal virtue. As you mature and enter the real world and you are the one paying the bills and are open minded enough to think out all positions that you become a republican.
If you are looking for someone else to take care of you or if you are looking to victimize the poor you are and will remain a liberal democrat.
