fat_albert_999 are you not just playing into the hands of big business and governments which would rather you not focus on the REAL polluters?

You need to do both. Get out on the streets and demand that big polluters stop it, eg. Esso, Coca Cola, the gold mining industry, but then you've also got to live sustainably yourself, ie, consume as little as possible of the non-renewable things and also refuse to buy things from the worst polluters, so not buying Esso stuff, etc. Domestic energy consumption makes a massive contribution to greenhouse gases.

I echo 'fat___alber' in what's said.

To supply an answer one must have a perspective of what's going on. There are likely 5 or 6 times as many TV's on stand-y as there are cars on the road. The electricity to supply them on stand-by obviously mounts up. But although this is likely only a relatively small percentage over much that makes up industry as a whole, it is a way for the individual to make some personal difference that actually counts. And, even if it does not count on the larger scale, then it does matter to ones own smaller scale electricity bill.

Your knocking what the individual changes can do, and that's not ok.

I only have control over what I do so I recycle and try not to use too much electricity. If every single person did this it would make a difference.

I also avoid using the gasoline the big oil companies produce as much as possible by my choice of vehicle and lifestyle. If everyone did this the oil company would feel it in their pocketbook and that is all they understand.

Money and how much these big polluters make is the one thing that will get their attention.

I think it is YOU who needs to come back down to Planet Earth.

because millions of people leaving their tv on or not recyclying and wasting millions of kilowatt hours of electricity that these electric plants used thousands of pounds of fossil fuels to create is one of the biggest problem. There are billions of people in this world. If every one of them makes a little mess instead of helping to clean it up, the world is a big mess real fast.
