i paid one of those scam companies for a list, but they ripped me off. it cost like 50 bucks a search and its not even a guaranteed match

Using every clue you have about your friends, you so engine searches, telephone places where your friends last were, and even you have to go in person to places such as county clerks' offices, sheriff's offices, bars, restaurants, libraries, schools, places of employment.

Hire a certified P.I.

Post bulletins on line. You lose some privacy, but it's free. It's your choice.

Start with the last known place he/she lived.
If you know any relatives or friends, or even the last company they worked for, ask them.
