it could be a number of things...high blood pressure...weak vessels in your nose or a dry house...my suggestion to you is go and see a doctor and go through process of elimination...another words...if it is not high blood pressure, than it might be your vessels (which they can rectify), if it is a dry house, it might be as minor as putting a little vasoline in your nose for moisture when you sleep...good luck

Well, there are a number of different causes for nosebleeds, ranging from ridiculous to preventable to potentially fatal. A common cause is rupture of weakened vessels from "trauma", which could be in the form of agressive nose blowing or sneezing, being struck in the nose, or even, as you've read already, nose "picking". A more serious cause is high blood pressure weakening vascular walls and causing them to rupture. This is actually a potentially fatal etiology, as exsanguination (bleeding to death) is a possibility, (if the HBP doesn't kill you first). Other relatively common causes of nose bleeds that I see in the ER are excessively dry air, inhalation of chemical vapors (such as ammonia, acid fumes, etc.) and infections/allergies.

I used to get them because I had varicose veins in my nose (I know, minging) that would bleed at the slightest amount of pressure. So, I guess that's one cause.

There are loads of tiny blood vessels inside the nose, so I guess anything that weakens them would cause a nose bleed.

I am 42 years old and have never had a nose bleed. I have always heard that sinus problems, high blood pressure and things like that cause them. I guess I am one of the lucky ones.

Picking too much. If you get them a lot then they stick a hot poker up your nose to seal the wound. NICE!!!!
