I just want to know different things that happen when you play Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" in conjunction with "The Wizard Of Oz"

To any true Pink Floydian, this is an old topic of debate. The band denounces any such deliberate attempt at the matter, while at the same time this "performance" has been done several hundreds of thousands of times in dorm rooms and frat houses since the release of the album.

The official name of this "concept" is synchronicity. There are 3 points at which this can be applied, all 3 of which occur at the first, second or third roar of the MGM lion at the beginning of the movie. Each providing a different point in which the movie "synchs".

The concept works when the movie is muted and the album is started (easiest with MP3, or CD media) at (as mentioned) the first, second or third lion roar. The words, or music line up perfectly with various visual aspects of the movie (for example the heart beating and the tin man, or the line "run....rabbit run" at the beginning with the tornados in the background and Toto running for shelter). The credits roll through the beginning with a backdrop of music (Speak to me/Breath) and the music cuts off as the movies opening credits begin. The CD plays precisely half way through the movie, at which point the CD will begin again if set to auto-replay and other events will synch through the movie (I wont spoil them here).

As mentioned previously, the band denies the deliberate application of this, but if you look very closely at the P.U.L.S.E concert album, Dorothy, Toto, the wicked witch, the house, the shriveling feet of the wicked witch (in OZ), a flying monkey, a clock, a sand-timer, a bicycle and a faint image of the emerald city can be seen, which is uncanny considering the second album of the concert is the Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety and the 3 (same number as the number of places in which the synchronicity can be started) encore songs.

It's alovely story, but there's nothing to it. Bear in mind, first of all, that the movie "The Wizard of Oz" is more than twice as long as the album "Dark Side of the Moon." Also the album was recorded when the only way to see a feature-length movie was to go to the cinema, so synching up an album and a movie would have been impractical.

I have tried watching the two together, and nothing much happens. There are a few similarities in the sequence of the song and the events of the movie's first act, but that's it. Frankly I got bored. Listen to your album and watch your movie, but don't try to do both at the same time.

First of all, every person I know has tried this and gotten it wrong. They always start the CD at the wrong moment. You have to hit PLAY on the CD player right after the MGM lion roars for the THIRD TIME. He does one big roar followed by a second little one. Then he does another big roar. That's when you hit play.

The cool things that happen is the twister scene comes on right when "The Great Gig in the Sky" comes on, and "Money" comes on the second Dorothy enters munchkinland. "Us and Them" comes on when the Wicked Witch of the West enters the scene, etc, etc. There are other minor things like the bells erupting when Miss Gultch comes along riding her bike. It's really cool.

i saw it done 1 time, by a "professional" and it the first half of the movie was UNCANNY. when it got to the end of the album they started the album over again and it seemed pretty silly and we left.

the trick was to start the album exactly on the 3rd lion roar just before the film starts.

Its kinda cool. The album does seem to make a nice soundtrack for it...it gives the movie a whole different feel. I didn't have time to watch the whole thing.
