Why is it that every time a person asks a question related to the human condition there's always people that spout off about god and quote scriptures. This is something that's plagued me for a long time now and I really want to know. Are you really that much of a sheep or do you just have no opinion of you're own.
I'm not trying to be disrespectful but PLEASE give me an honest answer without quoting me things from a book. I want to know what YOU and YOU ALONE think.
Obviously I don't believe as you do. I believe it's up to us and us alone at the end of the day to make things happen. And because I believe this I am not lost!

So far I've had a few really good and interesting answers. However, for those of you that don't get the question I will rephrase it.
What drives you as a christain to use scripture and quotes to answer questions on the human condition?
This was never a rant! I have a serious want to understand why some people feel they need to press their beliefs on you. If you're bothered by my question then you don't practice what you preach. I've been around the block a few times but I never got why people feel the need to do this.
I agree with what Annillie. zucchero81, amp, and bamamama700 have said. Some of what they said I already thought and they have given me something to think about also. Thanks guys and gals!

Considering that I have more fun twiddling with religious people that actually listening to the regurgitated pap that they love to spout, can only tell you what I have come to see. Those that preach of god and their beliefs have been indoctrinated to their faith to an unshakable core and can no longer feel or hear the world around them. There is nothing more loyal or fanatical than a stray who has found a home. Just look at a rescue pet in a permanent home, they are obsessively, constantly trying to "prove" that they belong, and are part of a larger whole. Religion is the same way, unfortunately it does not teach you to think for yourself and be aware and responsible for your own actions and deeds. It does however teach you to do "the lord's will" -talk about Pavlov's effect ( thinking the dog trick, ya know the one) Pity, a free mind is one a lot more interesting and full of life.

Is this a question or just a statement?
I believe in God but I'm certainly capable of making decisions and answering questions without mentioning him (unless it is a theological question). I do not follow my faith blindly & am open-minded to other viewpoints. I know what you mean about people responding with seemingly brainwashed token responses or quotes from Scripture. Perhaps it's easier to provide a rote response than to really think about the issue. God may be an easy answer for everything. For some people. Some are very religious & that is the biggest part of their lives. I have to admit that while I am a spiritual person I don't consider myself overly religious. I love God but it doesn't consume my being.
Live & let live, I say. Let the Bible-thumpers thump & let the atheists have their big bangs & evolution. Whatever gets you through! Just live the best life you can & go from there! Everyone has their own views on life, their own belief systems. The key is tolerance. We don't all have to agree but it'd be nice if we could all get along!
Cheers!

Bloody good for you. I don't think you're lost either, I'm sure you know exactly where you are.
I'm not 100% sure what your question is though? People quote God on here cause they can. And it's an easy answer ain't it, and how can it be wrong??
I too believe we are responsible for where we end up, and I believe in God too. (See how I snuck Him in there, pretty slick huh?) I also believe there are other forces, if you will, that determine some aspects of our life. I guess that makes me a hypocrite. Shrug, I can live with that. Take out nature, earthquakes, etc. Take out other people who influence and mix in your life. Still, once in awhile it hits the fan through no fault of my own and I'm standing here going huh, how come? It is a vast universe, and I'm pretty certain we aren't all by our lonesomes. And the joys of living in my world are that I can think that way, but if I ask a bunch of people for their opinions I'm going to get some answers I don't like.

I agree with you. It's usually people who are uneducated who quote from the religious texts because they don't know any better. Think about it - it's much easier to control people by instilling them with the fear of god when they are poor than when they are rich. That's why many politicians do this (we all know who I'm talking about) and have proven to be successful. Education is the key to getting rid of this ignorance and having people take control of their lives. In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with having faith in a creator, but one shouldn't rely on an unseen force to do things for you if you can do them for yourself. That way you have much more of a sense of accomplishment, no?

Of course it is up to us to "make things happen" We do have free choice. The choices we make in life determines what things happen. Hopefully, if we are wise enough, we will make the choices that make the good things in life happen. To me if we live by the principels put forth in the Bible we will make the choices that lead to the good in life, It just seems to happen that way. It is like a text book for making the good things happen. For instance, and forgive the analogy, i decide to make a cake there is a recipe for the cake, and if i follow those basics i know the cake will turn out right..

Absolutely!!! It used to be anything extra formal, but I used to speak to Him anything the intent and for the reason that I saved ahead to my possess ambition and wishes, while He gave me avertisements I stored none and did my means going into increasingly trubles! Into an finish, inside a deep depresion, He stored my lifestyles (!!!) the very moment I left away of all my deep wishes... There, empty center, I used to be full of God's Light and Peace and Love - a entire New LIFE, a brand new frame, a New Vision over the beyond and the longer term :) :) :) Yes, He is my Saviour!!!

Mark 17:1 "Huh?"
There are only 16 chapters in Mark ... I wrote that quote in the bible myself.
Nonetheless, if people want to quote something that has given them answers, then that is atuned to their thinking - that may well be their answer.
Cliches! Now those answers I hate - weather bible based or not.

Most religions would agree that it is up to you to make things happen and god doesn't interfere.
