All right, all you players, rec and otherwise.

I play a three to four day hockey week, between games and practices. This week I've got a wicked flu and I'm still (so far) making it to games (although I think I'm going to give Thursday's practice a miss).

It seems kind of stupid to drag myself to hockey feverish and hacking, but if I *don't* go, we're usually down to two D on my women's team, and there's a chance they won't even have two full lines of forwards. So I go, sick or not. Last week I played with whiplash.

What about you all? Are you a "be there every game or die" player, or do you figure it's just a game and stay home if you're not up to it?

I know guys in the NHL play with broken bones, new stitches flu, food poisoning, massive hangovers... but they're pulling down the big paychecks.

What about the rest of us... is it worth it?

Me? I'm stubborn. Stupid or not, I'll always play. In a season, I'll miss maybe, at most, one game.

You?

There's a culture in hockey where you play hurt. It's a tough sport for tough people and a team is relying on you so I say play if it isn't going to worsen your condition and you'd miss more games.

PLAY or Die! I never miss a hockey game due to sickness. If i can play hurt i will. I've thrown up on the bench b/c of sickness many a times, weither it be b/c of a hangover or the flu. I've also played with broken finger, sprained ankle, pulled groan. Hockey is my stress releaver. If i don't get that, i'm in a horrible mood.

You are a lot tougher than some of the guys I played with when I was a kid. This one time I had a cold and I decided to play because we had a tournament. Anyway, We only had about one and a half lines and maybe three guys on D, so I was the centre on both lines. We played to games back to back, and all I remember was my throat closing up mid-way through the second period of the second game. But all I did was walk around and I felt better after a few minutes.

So, more power to you!

By the way, are you canadian, if so, figures.

I'm not sure whether all of our hockey player mentalities is the right way to go about things or just stupidity run amuck, but I'm a all go no quit, play sick, hurt, etc hockey player. Its nice to see that more people have the same devotion to the game I love so much, and can't live without! Its one of those things that make a hockey player... well a hockey player!

I don't think I've ever missed a game due to sickness. I think I might have missed 1 game in the last 10 years due to injury and I've had several pulled groins, inflamed meniscus, sprained ankles, busted fingers. I like to think that a good game will usually knock a cold right out of you.

I play sick just because I don't want to miss a game, I only play once a week. If you are going to put others at risk of getting them sick or it is going to worsen your condition, then sit out a game or practice. It won't hurt your game, it sounds like you get a lot of ice time.

if my team needs me, and if i only have a flu, i;ll be down there. better to have the team play lousy then to have a walk over.

i;m for going down unless it;s a major injury like a fractor or something that if i dont stop it'll damage my body permernantly or for a very long time.

i think it;s a huge phycological factor to have team members lined up on the bench . EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT GONNA PLSY . it lets me know there's support .

hope this helps

do take care.

although rest and water is very imprtant

haha

it depends on the sickness or injury
playing with a broken finger isnt fun but it can be done
but trying to skate on a twisted ankle is impossible

I wouldnt want to play if i couldnt play at my best game. But if my team needs me, i would play. Plus it would depend on how sick i am .
