My USB seems to be broken, but according to the Windows device manager, it's working.
I plugged in my iPod and it charges, but it can't read the iPod. I tried an external HD and the PC can't read the HD. I tried updating the drivers, but they're all updated.
How can I tell what's wrong with it? Will I need to take it to the shop? Is there a software that can tell me what's wrong with it?

It could be that your usb does'nt have enough power to support these items. Maybe you should get a hub to support these kinds of things. Hubs are fairly cheap and very useful. I have found that the USB's in the front of the PC never has as much power as the ones on the back of your PC. I think it's just a compatibly problem and not a big issue. Try getting a hub you wont regret it. (and sometimes I uninstall the drivers and let the computer reinstall (dont forget to reboot) and all turns out well) You always have to reboot after putting in any kind of hardware.
Good Luck Hun, Hope I've Helped ;-)

I'm not really sure but you may just need to plug your ipod in to it and restart your computer while it is plugged in and see if it works after that.
