I'm a student who works part time but I need the day off tomorrow so I can study for a very important midterm!! I don't get paid for sick time so it's not like I'd be "stealing from the company". Has anyone else ever done this? What excuse did you use? Were you honest about studying?

Luckily, my job let me take off for study time when I was in school. But I had a laptop for work, so I was also able to work from home.

If you've been with this company for a while, what would be the harm in asking for one day (or maybe just a 1/2 day) to prepare for your midterm? I think students do this all the time and employers should respect that. Unless you have something really important coming up with work and taking time off would jeopardize that, you should be honest with your employer. You wouldn't want them to find out differently, so just ask. It won't kill you.

Good luck!
