I get mean before my period. I also get irritated easily. I have problems getting to sleep sometimes also. What do you do when you have PMS symtoms? I heard that St. John's Wort can help.

I can get mean and extremely irritated too and I tend to take it all out on my poor boyfriend, lol.
I haven't tried St John's Wort myself but a few women that I know who have taken it swear it works for their PMS, and alleviates most of their symptoms.
For myself I found that not long after I started taking the pill my symptoms lessened dramatically, I am much less emotional and not so easily turned into a potential serial killer, lol.

When you're premenstrual, avoid coffee, chocolate and anything you may have noticed makes things worse. I limit social contact during that time and try to be extra kind to myself. Severe PMS can be treated with birth control pills, depo-provera, or progesterone. Diuretics can help too. My Dr. told me that when you're retaining fluid, some of that extra fluid is in your head as well, putting pressure on the brain. That's what causes the irritability. He said a large proportion of women use diuretics for about 10 days before their period. Talk to your doctor before taking anything though, we don't know your medical history.
