I am in the tenth grade, and we are two months into school. One would think after already going to school for 10 years, this problem would not be happening but it is. I feel like i dont want to leave my parents, and leave the comfort of home. I just want to grab my quilt, bring it to the couch, and watch tv. Its like the first day over and over again, everyday. So far, i go to school 3 hours late, missing 3 classes because i can get more time at home. I dont know what i am afraid of, but it is tearing me apart, and i dont want to deal with anything like this, Also school isn the best of places either. I cant make any friends, in some of my classes, and i have this body odor problem. I feel like i am giving the other students a hard time with my body odor, and i also feel sad when i see students covering there nose. Students probably think i dont take showers, but i do and am very clean. I am a normal indian kid, i have a couple advanced classes, and i am slacking off. plz respond:(

It sounds like you have a bundle of issues to deal with. Home is safe, so that at least is something good you have going for you. It's hard when you have physical issues like an odor problem. This sort of thing can be devastating in your teen years. Let me first say that I admire your courage in asking for help. That's not an easy thing to do, and it shows that you have the inner strength to overcome the troubles you're facing.

Here's a few ideas that might help:

- Tackle the odor problem. Identify its source and see if you can eliminate it. This is a barrier between you and others; you owe it to yourself to try to knock it down. Speak to your doctor. Many odor issues can be eliminated with some medication.

- Speak to others about how you are feeling. Your parents, your school counsellor, a trusted teacher -- these can all be resources for support, ideas, and real help.

- Give yourself reasons to go to school. Find one thing to look forward to. Join a club or a social group. Browse through your school library. Hang out in the computer lab. Find something fun that will draw you to school.

Finally, don't give up. You are smart -- you are addressing your issues instead of hiding from them. Keep at it until the problem is resolved.

Best wishes,
~Tia~

What you should really be afraid of is not getting a complete education and having a future full of menial low paying jobs that will extend a cycle of poverty. Schools can be cruel places but keeping your grades up high will only increase your chances of moving to a higher level where you will have more control over where you will be in the future. If you think it's hard now try to project 20 years down the road. It's the future that counts. Snap out of it and get some counseling quick!

try talking to a school counselor or to ur parents. if this problem persists then u will be held backa grade and have to an extra yr fretting over going to classes and leaving ur house. besides if u want to get a job in the future ur employer will not stand for u being late everyday or wanting to stay at home.
also, about the BO, u mentioned a shower, but said nothing about deoterant. try this and maybe it will make school a more friendlier environment.

I didn't like school, either, but I stuck it out through college and now I don't have to worry about it anymore. You just need to be strong and get through it. Look, you're gonna be NOT in school much more of your life than you're gonna be IN it.
