It seems to be going by the wayside, as the choices will be made for you

You sound exactly like a Libertarian (Libertarianism is a political philosophy advocating that individuals should be free to do whatever they wish with their person or property, as long as they do not infringe on the same liberty of others), basically someone who beleives in freedom and not just what their idea of freedom entails.

People have a natural tendency to think that know whats best for others people and this transfers over to the goverment. This is why we have seat belt laws and the like. Yes seat belts are a great idea...but Freedom is the ability to make the the decision yourself. Freedom is choosing whether or not to use an umbrella when it rains.

Below I've listed some resources and information. The first telling what a Libertarian is. The second is the American Civil Liberties union, the strongest group trying to restore true freedom in America! The third group is the Libertarian party, a poltical party that expresses a real drive to restore freedom.

This country and the world is very complex and there has to be some degree of restrictions. Being told what color of a house may be because an idiot may want to paint their house hot pink when everyone has historically accurate colors or colors that make sense together. Smokers want things their way and non-smokers want it their way the majority usually dictates to the minority even though our government was designed to accomodate the minority. The electoral college is an example of this. I am not sure of idleing trucks but abortion is controversial. Do these issues mean we are communists? Most of the goods you buy from countries such as China are communist ruled and I am sure you have no guilt buying goods manufactured in a communist country. Wal-Mart is pure commie goods and we love the cheap commie slave labor products. Freedom is relevant to what a person requires to make them feel free. I guess freedom is the right to destroy others lives with drugs. Should we be free to kill or do whatever we please? America is a dangerous place and that is why freedoms are dwindling. America can't handle true freedom nor can any nation as there are limits to what one person does as their freedom. One person's freedom may imprison another. Communism is just a label to use to describe one's own lack of what they consider their interpretation of freedom.

No, we are not Communist yet. Just consider you live next door to a nut who paints his house fluorescent pink or purple, the reason for this rule in Oklahoma is logical, they are trying to protect their property values. The reason truckers are not allowed to idle their trucks in New York is to consider other people in a heavy populated area. Have you ever tried to sleep with ten trucks idling practically next to your house? Most people have to get up in the morning and go to work, take their children to school, which will be tough not having enjoyed any sleep the night before, because of idling trucks. New York has the right idea.

Go to the other countries and find out what freedom's we do have. They have none. I have lived all over Oklahoma and never have I heard what color you can paint your house. In fact I worked in construction, before.
It would be nice if they would start to do something about air polution before we can't breath anymore.
There is problems with people smoking in public places.
But in contrast, while in the middle east. women can't look at you they walked looking at the ground. Had to cover themselves until all you could see was an eyeball peeking out of a ton of clothes in extremely hot weather. Don't know how they did it.
If you spoke to one and she spoke back she got smacked in the head by the male she was with. It was hard to watch.
I am home recoperateing but hopefully I won't have to go back.
Trust me honey you have a lot of freedoms. You don't realize that until you leave.

Not dead yet, or even moribund. There are still lots of choices you can make. Also, it is not appropriate to label societal restrictions as communism -- that was an (erroneous) economic system, which required loss of freedom to be maintained, but the loss of freedom was not a defining part of it.

Communists were all for abortion. But you're right on the other stuff. By the way, don't believe liberals who pretend to decry government control. They just want to be in power while the government is doing the controlling!

What happened? A bunch of well meaning boobs keep voting for neo-cons under the false assumption that because they call themselves "Conservatives," they really must be "Conservatives."

Apathy has created this situation where the government is riding roughshod over us. We have to get off of our duff, and tell them they work for us, we don't work for them.It is our country, not theirs.
