Hi,
I work as a LSA and work with a child who has dyslexia and aspergers. We use a great book called 'Toe by Toe'. Basically you spend 5-10 mins every day and it takes them from the basics (letter sounds) through to sounding words out and letter patterns. I recommend this method as I have seen my pupil improve ten fold both with literacy and CONFIDENCE, which is far more important. Remember repetition is essential with dyslexic children and make it fun as they can become quite introvert and frustrated with their 'disability'. With the memory, simple memory games, place ten objects on a tray study for 10 seconds remove one and they have to tell you what was removed. Cards (pairs) turn cards face down (make it easy and first with three pairs so six cards in total) and they turn them over and have to remember the place so they eventually come up with a pair. If you get frustrated stop the exercise and resume the next day. Oh, and omega 3 oils, such as Haliborange capsules for children will help their memory, again I have seen vast improvement in childrens concentration and memory with this supplement.
Have fun, and all the best.

Try catagorizing words and definatly repeated readings.
Also, give them extended time to complete homework if needed.
