There are no permanent places on a modern soccer pitch not even permanent numbers. Why do you think Didier Drogba conceeded a Penalty for Chelsea? Was n't he the same man who cleared the ball bound goal when Cudicine was fouled off the pitch at Majeski Stadium?
If you asked me whether Alan Smith is worthy a Man United player, my answer is YES. If he is more fit than any of the other strikers, then he will definately be playing and more focussed.

No. He is not really what you would call a regular scorer. For this reason he will not be used as a regular striker. Man Utd have tried him in midfield as the new "Roy Keane". This was not that successful either and therefore he will not be a regular midfielder especially given that Scholes is back and playing well. He will remain a squad player and play the odd game or come as a substitute. It is good to see him back playing after such a nasty injury but I think it would be better for him to join another club now if he wants regular first team football.

Definitely. Smith can also play in the holding role, where Carrick plays. Still not convinced about Carrick. I hope Smith has a future at United, he's got a good future

He was a class act for leeds, obviously he was too good to go down with the leeds but what man u are doing to him is a disgrace.HE IS A STRIKER NOT A MIDFIELDER!!! take note fergie play smithy in the position that he plays you fool.Smith do yourself a favour leave the filth and join liverpool or blackburn dont let the fat scottish prick fergie destroy your career please!!!. P.S i am a leeds fan and yes i was devastated to see him join the scum i do not consider him a traitor , he is a leeds legend and always will be.

unfortunately for smith there will never be a place for him there, with saha on form and Rooney getting his ha-trick on sat, shame for both smith and English football because we could do with having a class player in the side to play anywhere in midfield or upfront when we need a hit-man upfront that can do the job like shearer could!!

i do wish leeds fans would be a little more respectable to other fans. if they dont like man utd all well and done i can just smile at them. there is no need for the abuse and yes i have bitten back at times. i dont know what there beef is cos they cant match man utd on football terms and i don't think the war of the rose's is recent history.??

Unfortunately i don`t think so,after performances in midfield last year then i don`t think he is good enough to play there for man u.Also because of his leg break and lack of match practise then i don`t think he can make it back into the side playing up front with solskjear, rooney and saha playing so well at the moment.

no unfortunity, what a waste of talent at Man U, be better to leave and play for another team where he will get regular first team footy, Man U will always buy a "bigger" striker

If he proves he's worth a place in the 1st team. As Saha did to take the place of Nistelrooy!!!
