In the NHL Skills Competition, speed skating portion (without a puck), they have been clocked at over 30 mph. I think the fastest ever was 35 mph by Sami Kappanan.

if i may add somethign. i thik they skate pretty darn fast . the only thing limiting them is the space with which they have to skate. i believe they are accelerating constantly untill the turn or slow down when they skate .

however when you have the puck you cant really go your fastest unless your real good . plus, in the game they have to look around and avoid others etc .

so if your asking how fast a ice hockey player can skate., think as others said, about 35-40 mph . prolly faster. mainly because of the lack of friction.

if your asking how fast does a hockey player skate during a game, prolly alittle slower.

hoep this helps
