I bought an Acer laptop about 6 months ago and I'm extremely pleased with it. For: price, value for money and quality. Against: not a lot, they don't have the highest specifications and the best brand image but if you want something that's good value for money you can't go far wrong.

Yes, they are a good value for the money. However in my experience they are lacking in the support area, even if it is still under warranty. Also, the laptops are slightly, flimsy and don't appear to be built to take a great deal of abuse (not that any laptops are), just be sure you have a padded case to carry it around it, some laptops would be okay without a case but in the case of Acer, it's not really an option, I can actually feel it bend slightly when I take it out of the bag, not much... but I can feel it.
I've owned it for about six months now, so far no major issues worth noting... except the fact that due to my own fault I had to reinstall Windows five times in a row (one of which corrupted the hard drive), yeah... that was fun but as I said, that was of my own doing.

They are absolutely not worse than A-brands... Acer uses standard and well tested components so you cannot go wrong with Acer.
Maybe the the most important thing in a computer is the co-operability of the components used. Only companies with high enough sales volume can achieve the required test levels for component co-operability. So it is importan that you stick with a brand name...

PC Connection sells loads of Acer laptops/desktops. And they're selling them for fairly cheap. Do a search over at http://www.pcconnection.com for prices.
Epinions has a couple reviews of Acer products - all have been good reviews:
http://www.epinions.com/search/?submitted_form=searchbar&search_string=Acer+lapto ps&tax_name=&dyn_nav=0&dyn_nav_id=&search_vertical =all
I've never personally used an Acer, but they run fairly cheap.

i have a acer aspire 1350 notebook. the good things are its very steardy for moving around, good for just surfing the net, great pictures on watching dvds. the only downsides are the keys are abit small. the batterys life isant that long and i will have to upgrade the memory as its not that great. but then mines just a notebook. there are other ranges in the aspire that are alot better than mine. i do think that they are very reliable and are becoming much more common in households.
but all in all i think its a great make.

Yes they are. The brand name doesn't matter, they're good mid-range laptops - its all about the specification..........and possibliy the looks.
There's nothing really bad about them itself, cos they use Intel/AMD/Kingston etc components just like any other computer.

There fantastic.
Mines lasted 3 years and no problems (i use it everyday)
Other family members have the smaller note book variety and they have all lasted well too.
A good investment and value for money.

Yes, they are good.
I think the model specification matters more than the brand name.
