There are reasons why i like it, and reasons why i don't like it. If you win 7 or 8 races before the chase starts, and have a 500 point lead, and someone barely gets in the chase with no wins, and just does better during the chase, then it is very unfair for the guy with 7 or 8 wins. I don't think the chase shows who is better. If you cut a tire during the chase while leading, and hit the wall, it is very unfair, especially if you came in the chase with a big lead. And i hear people whining that they hate the format because tony is not in it. Even if they had the old format, stewart would not win the chase. Either way he is screwed. I think they should go back to the old format, but give the winner of races about 300 points, about 100 points more than second. That would make it more exciting. I agree that tony is better than half the chase drivers, but he would have not won the cup regardless. And drivers that lead the most laps should get about 30 bonus points instead of ten. Leading the most laps takes skill, but winning the race is sometimes luck.

The reason for the top 10 being included in "The Chase", isn't because it's only 10 that make the stage, it is because no one, with 10 races to go, has been lower then 10th or more then 400 points, out of the lead, and won the championship. That's why they made that cut off. The Chase is a great idea for interest and keep more teams eligable to win the championship, like said earlier, but it needs to be "fixed".
I like the old format too, but it did make races less interesting at the end of the year when someone was walking away with it, but isn't the point's system based on consistancy? Why should the top ten get bunched together with 10 races to go? Kind of unfair to the team that had a good year to that point, built up a sizable points lead, and loses it, with 10 to go.
I think what should be asked is should the top 10, in the chase, race separately from the rest, in order to see who the champ is, or is there a way to modify the chase, to make it more interesting for all the fans. Even the ones not in the chase. Watch a broadcast once, and pay close attention to how much coverage the non-chase guys are getting. I mean, you watch NBC, and when they go "through the field", they cover the top 10 in the race, and then focus on only the chasers. Also, when there's a yellow, they only key on the chaser's pit stops. Last night, Tony Stewart was winning the race, and they keyed in on Junior's, Johnson's, and Kenseth's pit stops, not Tony's, because they were the top 3 running chaser's. If I'm a sponser, I'd be mad that my car isn't getting TV time.
Bottomline....NASCAR's got work to do for sure!!!!

The Chase format is succeeding is accomplishing what it was set out to do. The main reason for the Chase was to keep interest in the sport all of the way through the season. Under the old format, the championship was basically down to two or three drivers with ten races to go. Because of that, the interest in the sport would drop with many fans going on to watch the NFL and only checking on the results for NASCAR.
The Chase isn't perfect, but I like what it has done. It is interesting to watch the races knowing that at least ten drivers have a chance with ten races to go. Even with three to go, it appears there are five legitimate contenders for the Cup this year.
One thing I don't like about the Chase is that those below tenth in the standings are more and more expected to 'move out of the way' of the Chase contenders during the race. We have heard some of the Chase drivers complain about them actually racing for position. Folks, regardless of the points standings, a race is still a race and as long as they allow 43 cars to start the race, each of those 43 cars should be allowed to race for the win.
I really think that NASCAR needs to add more points for winning. Right now, even with the Chase, the points structure rewards consistency only. Isn't the object of a race to WIN. If that's the case, reward those that win with more points. It would add another element of interest, in my opinion.

I have mixed feelings about it. Under the old format, with 3 races left to go, you would have 1 driver with a commanding points lead and 1 driver with an outside shot at the Cup. This is more fair to the drivers that showed the most consistency during the year, but makes watching it kind of boring if one driver is running away with it. The Chase format keeps more drivers in the hunt. Right now, the top 5 realistically still have a shot at it. It is more fun for the fans and not very fair for the drivers.

The Chase is ok, but this year is a perfect example...Tony Stewart cannot win the Title this year do to 4 DNF, and a few bad runs near the stretch...meanwhile, he has won 4 races this year, and honestly, done better than atleast half of the Chasers, he's won 2 of the Chase races, and placed well, in the rest. By all logic, the best driver should get the Nextel Cup, but if the "best driver" has some wrecks, bad cars, etc, he gets screwed.
BTW, I'm a JR fan...

the new stuff is ok but I think if you had won a race through out the season you should be in the chase. NASCAR is trying to cut cost in a high dollar sport I say lets see some reality

I like the chase. Yes, Tony won't be champ this year, but on the bright side, Johnson has lost it 2 years in a row because of the chase and Tony won last year! I think it makes things exciting.

The Chase is okay, but I think they should expand it to the top 15 drivers after all in the setup it was all about finishing in the top 10 so you could sit up on the stage at the banquet.

i didn't like it at first thinking that it ain't fair to the guys. but now that i'm used to it and think that it's a good idea. i've liked everyone that has one it so far. do you really want the points system to be like the busch series and have someone run off like kevin. and win the championship with five races to go. then what would be the point of even trying anymore. though i'm not to happy that tony didn't make it so i guess i'll have to pull for jeff and jimmie
