The South

I would say the south.
During the 1600's there were 2 surveyors studying the great expanse westward of the US. Their names were Mason and Dixon. Their line stretched from New Jersey, threw Pennsylavania and west, and later became known as the Mason Dixon Line. This line became popular during the civil war as the states began to take sides and rally with one another. Kentucky, even tho they remained nuetral for quite a while during the war, eventually joined the south, and has ever since given the presence of being a southern state.

Location: Kentucky is bounded to the west, north and east
by three rivers; the Mississippi, Ohio, and Big Sandy Rivers.
The southern boundaries are formed where Kentucky meets the
states of Tennessee and Virginia. Louisville, the largest city,
is located at latitude 38 14' 47" and longitude 85 45' 49". Therefore, my answer is it is more a SOUTHERN part of the NORTHERN United states. :)

South, is it not below the famed Mason-Dixon line? Was it not a southern sympathizing state during the Civil War?

South. It is technically south of the Mason-Dixon line which is the determining factor.
